OIA West Security Screening Check Point Expansion
Orlando International Airport, Orlando, Florida
Increasing screening capacity to deliver on the Orlando Experience
The scope of the project involved the addition and re-configuration of the TSA screening area at the west check point. The project was done as two phases. The first phase included adding 4 new screening lanes by relocating the Disney store and the Orlando Police Department office, and infilling existing stair cores. The second phase added 4 new screening lanes by relocating the Universal store. The second phase was more challenging due to the lack of existing framing information and lack of accessibility prior to construction. During the construction, floor supporting hangers had to be removed for queuing and the floor was re-supported with new steel columns threaded through the baggage conveyor belts on level 2 down to parking level.
